Recover deleted & lost files on Mac OS X Snow Leopard
Mac OS X Snow Leopard is the latest operating system from Apple's line of operating systems. Apple claims Snow Leopard to be one of the most advanced and finely tuned operating system ever. There are some features that make the Snow Leopard stand out among other operating systems. Some of the key features can be summarized as follows,
- The Finder has been improved to a considerable extent on Snow Leopard. It has a new customizable spotlight search option, and 64-bit support.
- There has been a considerable difference in the speed at which Time Machine performs backup. Time Machine on Snow Leopard takes lesser time to backup your data, than the earlier versions of Time Machine.
- Snow Leopard provides for easy and quicker installation than the previous versions of Mac OS X.
- The file sharing feature in Snow Leopard has been improved considerably. With Snow Leopard users can let their Mac go into sleep mode, while sharing of data happens uninterrupted.
- Mac OS X Snow Leopard has better graphics support, which enhances game play and other graphic intensive applications.
Despite these advanced features and enhancements, there can still be situations under which you end up losing data. You can however make use of the Time Machine, but only to prevent loss of data by taking a backup, and not for recovering deleted or lost data. To recover lost and deleted data you would need to make use of a good Mac recovery software. Step 1: Start Mac Data Recovery application by clicking on the desktop icon or by selecting the application from the Programs list. The main screen of the software pops up as shown in Figure a.

Step 2: The different drives and volumes that are connected to the system get displayed as shown in Figure b. Choose the volume on which you want to perform data recovery, and then click on the Recover button.

Step 3: Clicking the Recover button, will open a new window which lists out all the different file types that can be recovered. You can select specifically choose the file type that you wish to recover, or alternatively click on the Select All button, to select all the file types, as shown in Figure c.

Step 4: After you select the file types that you want to recover, click on the Next button. Clicking the Next button, starts the scanning process. The selected volume is scanned for lost/deleted files, and once the scanning is complete, the found files and folders are listed out in a tree format as shown in Figure d.

Step 5: Once the tree structure has been formed, the next step is to save the recovered data onto a safe location. Select the files that you want to save, or click on the Root folder if you want to select all the files. Next, click the Save button.
Clicking the Save button opens a new window that lets you select the destination drive,where the recovered data is to be saved. Select the destination drive where you want to save the recovered data, and click on the Save button.
Clicking the Save button, saves the selected data onto the destination drive that was specified. The data that has been saved can be now accessed as before.
